2023 World University Ranking: UCC best in Ghana, 1st in West Africa
The 2023 World University Ranking is officially out and the University of Cape Coast (UCC) remains the best in Ghana, 1st in West Africa, and the best 4th in entire Africa. The tertiary institution rankings in the 2023 Times Higher Education Rankings put the Cape Coast-based university above the University of Ghana and KNUST
UCC best in Ghana, 1st in West Africa in 2023 World University Ranking by Times Higher Education
The announcement was contained in the 2023 Times Higher Education annual rankings. This gives UCC the enviable bragging rights ahead as the best university in Ghana globally for research influence.
Out of the 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions accessed by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2023, UCC proved its pedigree through its research capabilities among others.
The 13 factors considered in ranking the almost 1800 universities worldwide measure the performance of all universities considered across four areas of teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
Some 121 million citations of the various universities were analyzed in over 15.5 million research publications as well as 40,000 survey responses from scholars globally.
From the 2,500 institutions that submitted data, about 680,000 points were awarded in all for their performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
The Times Higher Education Rankings is the world’s most trusted ranking institution and is highly respected worldwide by not only students and teachers but also governments, and industry experts. This gives its results a worldwide appeal and accuracy each year as the rankings give better information on how the global higher education landscape is shifting.

At the top of the 2023 Times Higher Education Rankings league table is The University of Oxford which remained unbeaten at the top for the seventh year running followed by Harvard University in second place, but the University of Cambridge moved upwards from fifth last year to third.
The highest new entry is Italy’s Humanitas University, ranked in the 201-250 bracket.
