The 2024 NSMQ Top-Ranked Senior High Schools in Ghana Is Finally Out But Who Tops The League Table?
Mfantsipim School may have won the 2024 NSMQ and the bragging rights, but the NSMQ Ranking of Best Senior High Schools in Ghana has also been released, sparking more debate among schools and diverse stakeholders.
Sorry if you do not find your favorite school in the first ten on the list, which contains over 100 schools. This year’s list is quite a tough one, given the way the 2024 NSMQ ended with all the knife-edge moments from the quarterfinals.
The ranking uses historic data from all the competitions held each year since 1992, making it more skewed toward schools that repeatedly make it to the contest and not necessarily the performance of the schools in the latest edition.
Per the released 2024 NSMQ Best Schools ranking, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Presec) is still the best in Ghana, despite losing in the 2024 finals to Mfantsipim School.

They are followed by Prempeh College, who did not make it to the finals, in second position. Mfantsipim School and Adisadel College follow in the third and fourth positions, while Opoku Ware School makes it to the 5th position, rounding off the top five schools for the year 2024.

The interesting fact about the top five schools is that they are all boys’ schools.
In a post on X, the organizers of the contest indicated that the rankings were not based on trophies won but rather on a system similar to that used by FIFA Rankings and Chess.
Below is the full ranking released for the 2024 year under review.
“To rank all 322 schools, we use Elo ratings—the same system used by the FIFA Rankings and Chess—not just titles.”
