The Student Representation Council (SRC) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has budgeted to blow over GHS1 million on producing souvenirs and other projects on campus
This was contained in the SRC 2024 budget released for the academic year. The SRC further disclosed that another GHS 100,000.00 will be spent on two bus stop sheds.
To add to the comfort of students on campus, the SRC will further spend some GHS 90,000.00 on the renovation of the university’s pavilion and love benches.
Across sections of students who are preview to the budget released have cast doubts on the budget and fear the SRC will be wasteful. Some have questions about why the huge sum has to be spent on such projects, which the university must engage in from the fees charged students.
Some students whose comments the Ghana Education News has seen on Social media believe the dues paid by students will end up being wasted by the SRC on such projects.

Awini Tafari Fatawu, reacting to the post above, said “Sika nu ashi” in Akan, which means money has gone to waste.

In all, the SRC will spend GHS 1,086,000.00 on souvenirs, sheds, pavilions, and benches.
