2025 NSMQ launch & balloting faces uncertainty due to SHSs withdrawal
Primetime Limited, the producers of the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), have yet to confirm, but as of the time of writing, the withdrawal of Senior High Schools from the competition threatens the launch of the Science and Maths Quiz scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
If you recall, we earlier reported that the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has withdrawn all public Senior High Schools (SHSs) qualified to compete from the competition.
In a letter to the NSMQ organizers, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) said schools that have qualified and are expected to be present for the balloting and subsequent stages of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) will not honour the invitation due to financial constraints.
The CHASS letter to Primetime Limited indicated that schools were unable to mobilise and prepare students for the competition because government funds meant for such activities had not yet been released.
“We regret to inform you that schools will not be able to participate in the balloting and subsequently the quiz competition due to non-availability of funds,” CHASS stated in the letter to Primetime Limited.
What this means is that if unresolved, the withdrawal could disrupt the 2025 NSMQ calendar, forcing organisers to postpone or scale down the National Science and Mathematics Quiz competition.
It could also affect students’ morale, especially those who have trained for months to represent their schools, and worst, erode public interest in one of Ghana’s most celebrated academic contests.
