How 31 strokes of a school owner killed a baby in school

Caning is prohibited in schools but some schools continue to use canes to correct learners, but giving a 1-yr-7-month-old child 31 strokes is the worse barbaric act that any teacher can engage in.

This is the sad event that has left many distraught in Nigeria after a year seven-month-old baby as Obinna reportedly died from 31 Strokes of a teacher.

According to reports, the child fell into a coma after the ordeal and passed on from lashes received from the school owner, Mrs. Ogbo, and her son.

The news was made public after reports by Ebenezer Omejalile, Chief Operating Officer of Advocates for Children and Vulnerable People’s Network, a human rights group went viral in Nigeria.

Details about the inhuman treatment meted to the child indicate the owner of the Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School, Asaba, Delta State with the help of her son took the child through the painful ordeal. They tied the child tied the hands and legs of the baby before flogging him into a coma.

The offense of the innocent child was that he played with water and got wet.

The woman and her son, who were initially in police custody but released due to agreement with the victim’s family, have been rearrested on Saturday after the baby died.

Omejalile condemned the act, calling on the Ministry of Education’s Quality Assurance Department to rise up to its task of evaluating and monitoring the activities of school owners.

He said, “With a heavy heart, we wish to inform the house that the one year seven months old baby finally gave up the ghost this morning.

“Meanwhile the proprietress’ family are still going about looking for who to bribe without considering what had happened to the minor.
