Speaking to JoyNews’ Maxwell Kudekor, Dr Ofosu said while the number was alarming, the students who have COVID-19 are asymptomatic and are responding well to treatment.
“Most cases are from communities and from those who visit the hospitals, but all the children are doing well and they are mostly asymptomatic and they are isolated. Our team is working with the school authority so that everything goes on well,” he said.
According to him, the health experts gathered 500 samples from the school and recorded 40 positive cases.
Meanwhile, available data indicates that the Eastern Region has so far recorded 322 confirmed cases, 152 active cases, and 9 deaths between January 1 and February 2, 2021.
Dr. Winfred Ofosu entreated Ghanaians to avoid mass gatherings and group eating. The Ghana Health Service is managing the Cocid-19 situation in the country to help contain the virus.
Schools, teachers, school managers, and students have been charged to observe the safety protocols and ensure that the rules are applied.
The 40 students who tested positive for COVID-19 at Akosombo must serve as a wake-up call for schools at all levels to adhere to the covid-19 protocols.
