WAEC Launches Digital Certificate (DigiCert) Services in Ghana and West Africa
In a major move to modernize educational records, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially rolled out the WAEC Digital Certificate Services System (WAEC DigiCert) across all five member countries.
As of February 16, 2026, candidates in Ghana, Nigeria, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone can now access, share, and verify their original certificates digitally via a mobile and web-based application.
A Voice from the Council: Authenticity and Reliability
In a press release issued from the WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Demianus G. Ojijeogu, the Head of Public Affairs, highlighted that this innovation is designed to eliminate long-standing frustrations for graduates and institutions.
“The system is reliable, the authenticity of the certificates is guaranteed, and the cost benefits to users cannot be overstated,” Ojijeogu stated on behalf of the Registrar.

-
Secure Sharing: Securely share certificates with employers or international educational institutions.
-
Data Recovery: Users who have misplaced their records can now recover lost WAEC examination numbers directly through the system.
-
Global Reach: Built on the success of a pilot program in Nigeria, the system is already receiving positive feedback from institutions worldwide.

What Happens to Physical Certificates?
For those who prefer traditional methods, the Council offered a reassuring note. “The usual printing and issuance of certificates will not be affected by this innovation,” the statement clarified. DigiCert serves as an ultra-fast, convenient alternative rather than a total replacement for physical documents.
How to Access WAEC DigiCert
Stakeholders can begin using the service immediately:
-
Mobile: Download the WAEC DigiCert app from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).
-
Web: Visit the official portal via www.waec.org.
