A total of 46 deserving students who excelled in the 2023 BECE have been honoured at the 2024 President’s Independence Day Awards in Accra. The awardees are currently first-year students in public second-cycle schools under the Free SHS policy.
By recognising 46 students who achieved exceptional results on the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Nestle Ghana Ltd. and the Ministry of Education have demonstrated their dedication to academic achievement. Students with visual or auditory impairments were hand-picked from a variety of public and private schools throughout the nation.
The 46 BECE graduates honoured at the 2024 President’s Independence Day Awards received a laptop each, a trophy, Nestlé souvenirs, and a year’s worth of Nestlé goods. In addition, they received a certificate signed by the President of the Republic of Ghana as part of the reward package that each student received. The awardees also had a blast participating in fun activities before the awards ceremony.
Among the things that were done were tours of the Nestlé plant in Tema, stops at the Ministry of Education, Jubilee House, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, and the Air Force Base in Burma Camp for an air-experience. Awardees were congratulated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Education, he argued in his lecture, is a basic human right and not a luxury. The future of our nation’s children is dependent on its educational system; thus, he urged everyone to think about the importance of education.
He made it clear that the Basic Education Certificate Exam will include a test in at least one Ghanaian language and that all students are required to study and pass this exam.
Distinguished guests, including state ministers, diplomats, traditional leaders, department and agency heads, winners’ parents, teachers, and students, gathered at the Accra International Conference Centre for the awards ceremony.

At the awards event, Mr Georgios Badaro, Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana Ltd., reaffirmed his conviction that honouring accomplishments such as the exceptional performance of the students at the BECE serves as a springboard for others to attain their own greatness.
Mr. Badaro, speaking on the topic “Our Democracy, Our Pride,” stressed the need to safeguard Ghana’s democratic system so that award recipients and other future leaders may help shape the country’s destiny.
