The Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has called on public tertiary institutions to consider the admission of WASSCE graduates who obtain D7 in their secondary school exit exam into universities.

Admit D7 graduates for university programmes

The acceptance of D7 for admission into degree and newly introduced Diploma programs would mean more students will qualify for admission into tertiary institutions and fewer students will opt for NOV/DEC to improve their grades. However, whether the universities have the needed infrastructure and manpower to accommodate the numbers is yet to be ascertained.

Currently, universities in Ghana admit SHS graduates with D7 into Diploma programmes. The Minister further said the government of Ghana has introduced more diploma programmes in tertiary institutions to help admit more students who obtain D7. The Minister made the call while swearing in the governing council of some public universities.

Ghanaians, notably final-year students sitting the present WASSCE Secondary School examination, have praised the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, for fighting for WASSCE grade D7 to be recognized for university entrance.
