E-levy is gone but do you know the three Momo charges you will still pay? Ghanaians erupted with excitement when the government kept its pre-election promise and axed the infamous e-levy on April 2, 2025. This news has been welcomed, but potential issues remain that could create confusion and mistrust among mobile money users and agents if not properly understood.

Let us look at the three charges you will still pay after the E-levy

Withdrawal Charges at MoMo Agent Centres

As a MoMo user, it’s important to understand that even with the removal of the e-levy, MTN will still charge you each time you make a withdrawal at a MoMo agent. Do not assume the MoMo agent is overcharging you. These charges should not cause disputes when you visit their shops for services.

MTN charges for withdrawals from your mobile money wallet, and the fees vary based on the withdrawal amount.

Transfer Charges from MTN

Similarly, when you send money to someone through an agent, you will still incur charges for this service. If you want the receiver to receive the exact amount you intend, you must add the transfer fee to the principal amount plus any applicable charges.

The statement “GHS2000 as the minimum amount MTN charges clients for” is unclear and likely inaccurate. MTN Ghana implemented new charges on March 1, 2024, “aimed at enhancing our customer experience”. Strangely, many customers are unaware of these changes. Please do not confront agents when sending money or making a withdrawal due to a misunderstanding of these fees.
