GNAT Raises Alarm After Night Attack on Teachers by Furious WASSCE Candidates in Kade.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has sounded a strong warning after a group of furious WASSCE candidates launched a late-night attack on teachers at Kade in the Eastern Region, following the release of the 2025 WASSCE results.

According to GNAT, the students stormed the teachers’ quarters on the night the results were published, accusing the educators of causing their poor performance by preventing cheating during the exams. The confrontation reportedly left several teachers shaken and forced some to flee for safety.

GNAT’s General Secretary, Thomas Tanko Musah, who confirmed the incident in an interview, described the attack as “barbaric and unacceptable,” calling it a growing threat to teacher safety nationwide.

Teachers Urged to Prioritize Safety

Mr. Musah advised teachers across the country not to compromise their personal safety under any circumstance.

“If any teacher senses danger, the law allows you to leave immediately and report later. We cannot sacrifice our lives in the name of duty,” he cautioned.

He further urged school heads to establish early-warning systems and improved security measures as tensions around national examinations continue to rise.

GNAT Warns Politicians Against Inciting the Public

The Association also issued a stern caution to political figures who have been blaming teachers for the widespread poor performance in this year’s exams.
Without holding back, Mr. Musah singled out Janet Nabla, Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP), asking her to refrain from making “reckless public comments” that fuel anger toward teachers.

“This constant attempt to scapegoat teachers must stop. Anyone who continues to incite the public against educators will be responded to appropriately,” he warned.

Growing Pressure After Mass WASSCE Failures

This year’s WASSCE results have triggered intense public debate, with many stakeholders calling for a full evaluation of teaching quality, student preparedness, and ethical conduct during examinations.
Education analysts say the attack in Kade underscores a worrying trend where students and some community members blame teachers for academic failures rather than addressing systemic challenges.

Security experts and teacher unions are calling for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent. Local education authorities in Kade are also expected to meet with law enforcement agencies to discuss long-term measures to protect educators.

GNAT says it will continue to monitor the situation and support its members
