Teacher Promotion Exams Trigger Outcry as GES Faces Mounting Questions from Educators

Public school teachers across Ghana are openly questioning the conduct of the ongoing promotion examination process by the Ghana Education Service.

The concerns emerged under GES’s official Facebook update, where teachers shared frustrations about exam centres, timing, and unresolved promotion matters.

Yaw Ampomah asked whether teachers who have changed locations can write the promotion exam outside their assigned regions.

He questioned why a teacher posted to a new region must still travel back to an old district to write exams.

Thomas Kofi Nti described the festive-season scheduling as unfair and financially draining.

He said GES posts teachers far away, yet still expects them to travel long distances during Christmas to write exams.

Amora Adams Ahmed drew attention to unresolved promotion letters from previous years.

She said teachers promoted last year are still working without official letters to confirm their new status.

Profasare Barlisasa Asare also questioned the delay in releasing promotion letters for the 2023 and 2024 batches.

He said the silence from GES has left many teachers confused and demoralised.

Gabriel Borngreat, speaking for junior-rank teachers, said promotions without salary scale placement defeat their purpose.

He warned that junior-rank teachers feel sidelined while new promotion exams are announced for higher ranks.

Teachers are now calling on GES to clarify exam centre flexibility and resolve long-standing promotion backlogs.

Many say addressing these issues promptly will restore confidence in the promotion system.
