The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially declared Friday, January 23, 2026, a non-academic day for all public school learners across the country. This directive comes as both Basic and Secondary school teachers are required to participate in a nationwide Mandatory Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training session.
GES Declares Holiday on Teachers’ CPD Day For Students/Pupils
While students are to remain at home, the day is strictly a working day for educators, who will be engaging in professional upgrading to enhance the quality of education delivery in Ghana.
The training session scheduled for January 23, 2026, focuses specifically on Phase 2 of Cybersecurity and Data Protection for educators. This comprehensive module is designed to build upon the foundational knowledge gained in Phase 1, equipping both basic and secondary school teachers with advanced skills to secure sensitive student information and school records against digital threats.
Key topics will include identifying sophisticated phishing attempts, implementing robust password protocols for school management systems, and understanding the legal implications of data privacy within the Ghanaian educational framework.
By participating in this session, teachers will gain the practical expertise needed to navigate the Katon Meet platform and other digital teaching tools securely, ensuring a safe online learning environment for all students.
Mandatory Training for Basic and Secondary Teachers
Unlike previous sessions that may have targeted specific groups, this January 23rd CPD training is mandatory for all teachers in the public sector, including those in Kindergarten, Primary, Junior High (JHS), and Senior High Schools (SHS).
The training will focus on Phase 2 of Cybersecurity and Data Protection, a critical area as the GES continues to digitize educational records and teaching tools.
Action for Teachers:
Registration: All teachers must log in and register for the meeting on the Katon Meet platform using their staff credentials.
Session Times: Training starts promptly at 09:00 AM and is expected to conclude by 01:00 PM.
Attendance: Participation is strictly monitored, and attendance will be used to award the necessary CPD points for license renewal.

Resumption of Academic Work For Public Schools
Normal academic activities in all public basic and secondary schools will resume on Monday, January 26, 2026. Students are expected to report to their respective schools in their full uniforms and prepared for the week’s lessons.
