The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially banned three prominent second-cycle schools in the Eastern Region from all sporting and related activities for a period of two (2) years, effective February 11, 2026. This decision follows reports of unacceptable acts of hooliganism and violence during the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports Competition.
Affected Schools
The following schools have been sanctioned by the Regional Education Directorate:
Koforidua Senior High Technical School (Sectech)
New Juaben Senior High School (Njuasco)
New Nsutam Senior High Technical School (Nsutech)
Scope of the Ban
The management of the Eastern Regional Education Directorate expressed deep displeasure at the conduct of students from these institutions. Consequently, for the next two years, these schools are strictly prohibited from organizing, spectating, or participating in:
Sporting Activities
Quizzes and Debates
Cadetting and Entertainments
These restrictions apply at the School, Zone, and Regional levels.
Additional Sanctions and Fines
In line with the GES Code of Conduct and the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association (ERSCSA) disciplinary articles, further penalties have been applied:
Financial Penalty: Each school is liable to a fine of Five hundred Ghana cedis (GH₵500.00).
Property Damage: Schools are surcharged to pay for the cost of any damage or injury to property or individuals, as determined by a specialized committee.
Official Directive
The Regional Director, Mrs. Ivy Asantewa Owusu (PhD), has directed the heads of the concerned schools to ensure that students, staff, and old students adhere strictly to these rules. The move is intended to avoid further disciplinary actions and to restore the rule of discipline within the GES.
