WAEC Launches Digital Certificate (DigiCert) Services in Ghana and West Africa

In a major move to modernize educational records, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially rolled out the WAEC Digital Certificate Services System (WAEC DigiCert) across all five member countries.

As of February 16, 2026, candidates in Ghana, Nigeria, The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone can now access, share, and verify their original certificates digitally via a mobile and web-based application.

A Voice from the Council: Authenticity and Reliability

In a press release issued from the WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Demianus G. Ojijeogu, the Head of Public Affairs, highlighted that this innovation is designed to eliminate long-standing frustrations for graduates and institutions.

“The system is reliable, the authenticity of the certificates is guaranteed, and the cost benefits to users cannot be overstated,” Ojijeogu stated on behalf of the Registrar.

The Council is urging the general public to transition to the digital platform to “avoid administrative challenges and bottlenecks associated with manual certificate issuance and collection”.

What Happens to Physical Certificates?

For those who prefer traditional methods, the Council offered a reassuring note. “The usual printing and issuance of certificates will not be affected by this innovation,” the statement clarified. DigiCert serves as an ultra-fast, convenient alternative rather than a total replacement for physical documents.

How to Access WAEC DigiCert

Stakeholders can begin using the service immediately:

1. Mobile: Download the WAEC DigiCert app from the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android).

2. Web: Visit the official portal via www.waec.org.

3. Updates: Follow official social media updates at @WAECDigicert.

With the launch of the Digital Certificate (DigiCert) Services, WAEC is expected to fast-track certifcate processing and remove all bottlenecks associated with the manual processing of certifcates for all examinations.
