How to Recover Your Lost WAEC Index Number Using DigiCert App

If you have misplaced your identity card or forgotten your examination index number from years ago, follow these steps to retrieve it using the official mobile app or web portal.
Step 1: Download and Register
Download the WAEC DigiCert app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Open the app and click on “Sign Up” to create a new account.
Enter your legal name (as it appeared during your school days), email address, and phone number.
Step 2: Access the Recovery Tool
Once logged in to the dashboard, locate and click on the “Recover Examination Number” tab.
Select your Country (e.g., Ghana) and the Examination Type (e.g., WASSCE or BECE).
Step 3: Provide Identity Verification
To prevent identity theft, the system requires specific details to find your record:
Year of Examination: Select the year you sat for the exam.
Candidate Name: Enter your full name exactly as it was registered.
Date of Birth: This must match the records held by WAEC.
School Name: (Optional but helpful) Selecting your secondary school helps narrow the search.

Step 4: Identity Validation (Biometrics)
For security, the app may request a live facial recognition scan or a valid government-issued ID (like a Ghana Card) to ensure you are the rightful owner of the record.
Step 5: Retrieve and Save
Once the system validates your identity, your Examination Number will be displayed on the screen. You can then use this number to request your Digital Certificate or check results.
Important Notes for Users
Cost: While the app download is free, a small administrative fee may apply for the recovery service and digital certificate generation.
Instant Verification: Once recovered, your digital certificate can be shared instantly with employers or universities worldwide through the “Share” feature.
Official Support: For any technical challenges, contact the WAEC Headquarters via their official handle @WAECDigicert.
