  • The government has released funds for the procurement of perishable food items by senior high and technical schools as threatened. The release of funds comes in the wake of complaints of food shortages and the delays in the release of funds by the government to schools. The release of funds for the procurement of perishable food items is part of the government’s effort to prevent the shutting down of schools as threatened by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).

    In a statement dated 21st April, 2026 and signed by Mr Daniel Fenyi, head of public relations of the GES, he disclosed that “Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform the general public, particularly stakeholders in the education sector, that the outstanding funds for the procurement of perishable food items for Senior High/ Technical Schools across the country have been released to the service.”

    The release furthered that the government has put in place measures to make sure the funds released are distributed to various schools as expected.

    Management has initiated processes to ensure the efficient distribution of these funds to the various schools.” the statement indicated.

    To ensure the judicious use of funds for the intended purposes, the GES indicated that the needed accountability systems have been instituted.

    “Monitoring and accountability mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the funds are utilised judiciously and solely for their intended purpose.

    All head teachers and school bursars, as well as other stakeholders charged with the responsibilities of transfer, reception, usage of the funds, procurement, storekeeping and supplies, have been tasked to ensure that the needed supplies are made available to feed students in schools across the country.

    Management of the service assures all stakeholders of its unwavering dedication to the welfare of students and the continuous improvement of educational outcomes across the country.
