Let’s support STEM, TVET education – Ayisi-Boateng

Ghana’s former High Commissioner to South Africa, Dr George Ayisi-Boateng, is rallying the media to help shape and change the negative narratives associated with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical, Vocation Education and Training (TVET) educations.

He said to say such educational modules were for dropouts was erroneous and needed to be corrected.

“Countries are not built by the so-called fine courses, but rather by people with skilled training and practical demonstration of their human capital,” he said. Touching on a number of national issues including corruption, Dr Ayisi-Boateng noted that key to the success of the educational reform was the effective role of the media in helping shape the right opinion.

Dr. Ayisi-Boateng called for support for the Special Prosecutor to implement the laws against the corruption menace, no matter who was involved. “As a country, we already have all the laws to stop this challenge. The problem really is implementation….”It is the reason I am in full support for this young man (Special Prosecutor), Kissi Agyabeng to succeed,” he added.

Dr Ayisi-Boateng, who is also a patron of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), was interacting with media practitioners in Kumasi and to formally announce his return to the Garden City after four-and-half years in South Africa as Ghana’s High Commissioner.

“For me, I have always held the view that no government policy does well if it is not favoured by the media. Your role as watchdogs and selling of government’s information is crucial,” he said.
