While 2021 BECE candidates are calling for remarking of their scripts and complaining that their scripts were not marked properly, a commentator on our FaceBook page who is an examiner has disclosed why 2021 BECE students scored poor grades revealed.

Salifu Ibrahim said: “We marked what the students wrote and based on WAEC marking scheme; students mostly write chaff and come out to say they answered the questions very well: you will even try to consider a student but to no avail.”

This submission attracted a lot of counter comments however, it is important that schools and teachers begin to make the answering of questions part of the lessons they teach. Students know their stuff but when it comes to understanding the questions and providing the relevant answers they fail to impress.

Salifu Ibrahim reacted to the message left by the examiner said…”You are not telling the truth. You only mark according to what is on the marking scheme. Not necessarily should every answer be from the marking scheme. Some of the teachers may not have any idea about the subject by marking what they want.”
