GES directs schools to resume sports activities but ensure vaccination of participants

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially directed all schools to resume sports and physical activities. According to the GES, the Ghana Health Service gave clearance since COVID-19 has been managed and brought under control in the country.

Since December 2019, basic and secondary schools have had inter sports activities cancelled due to the infamous coronavirus. It has, however, called on all schools to ensure, that teachers and learners are vaccinated before they participate in the sports activities.

“All schools are therefore entreated to ensure that their students/pupils.teachers are vaccinated before participation and spectating during the sporting programmes and activities.” The directive stated.

According to the GES, the slogan No Vaccination No Participation/ No spectating should be the guide for all schools. The sports programme of activities for the year has also been released to all schools.

The GES expects that when schools resume sports activities, they will compete at sectional and house levels within the schools as well as engage inter-schools at the district, regional and national levels in various disciplines including football and athletics.
