December 2022 Public Holidays in Ghana Until January 2023

Ghana is in the festive season and here are the December 2022 Public Holidays in Ghana as well as that of January 2023 to help you plan your vacation and event for family and friends

The Christmas festivities are always moments of joy and are often celebrated on public holidays. The 2022 festivities will not be different, however, Ghanaians are not likely to enjoy so many working days as public Holidays in December 2022.

This is because this year Christmas falls on Sunday, 25th December. Often when a Holiday falls on a weekend, the next working day is a Holiday. Unfortunately, the next day which is 26th December is also a Holiday.  This means 25th December will not have a working day as a holiday unless the government decides to be generous and declares 27th December as a Public Holiday.

If that does not happen, workers in Ghana will have to return to work on Tuesday, 27th December 2022.

An interesting twist is that the TUC has declared an indefinite strike effective 27th December if the government fails to publicly indicate that it has exempted all pension funds of Ghanaian workers from the debt exchange restructuring.

“What it means is that all workers of Ghana should stay at home from 27th December. Don’t go to work, stay at home, and we will stay at home until we hear publicly that all pension funds have been exempted.” Dr Yaw Baah said during a press conference.

Based on the above, if the government fails to reach an agreement with the TUC, workers will be in the Holiday mood for a few more days from December 27th, 2023.

New year’s day falls on Sunday, 1st January 2023. As explained above regarding holidays that fall on weekdays, it is anticipated that the New Year’s Day 2023 in Ghana which is Sunday 1st December will lead to the declaration of Monday 2nd January 2023 as a public Holiday.
