2022 BECE results released are accurate, they won’t change – WAEC

Students and parents have started to complain about the results they have accessed from the portal, with many indicating the results do not reflect the output of candidates. Some are calling for remarking on their scripts and making it look as though WAEC has deliberately failed candidates or given them low grades.
WAEC has also explained to AcademicWeek that “the released 2022 BECE results are accurate and not fake as claimed by some students and members of the general public.”
The WAEC official has indicated that the released results are accurate and are not expected to change later,r as some have been speculating.
“Last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) private and school results that have been released online at https://eresults.waecdirect.org are genuine and will be changed later as widely speculated,” the Council staff noted.
During the 2022 BECE Home Mock organized by Ghana Education News, our examiner’s reports to parents revealed a very worrying trend in schools and we at Ghanaeducation.org are not surprised by the poor results of many students.
Our observations included the following.
- Students answered questions poorly and lost valuable points.
- Schools, especially private schools hide the poor performance of BECE candidates from parents by giving parents good results for each mock.
- By camping students in schools when they get to form three in the name of helping them learn and pass the examination, most parents lose touch with the academic progress of their wards. For fear of losing candidates or would-be candidates to other schools, results of the end-of-term examinations and mocks are messages to make parents feel good.
- Schools do not do a thorough analysis of the performance of candidates in each mock as a team apart from the teacher or subject-level efforts of teachers. This way, the real problems facing candidates are never resolved, and these learners carry the same challenges into the exam hall.
- There is often no conscious effort and strategy by schools to attain a specific exam goal as a unit, and hence teachers set their individual goals and are left to their fate with little or no motivation.
The results are out, and the accusations being leveled against WAEC are unfortunate. WAEC has issued a disclaimer that the released results on https://eresults.waecgh.org are provisional outcomes of the students who wrote the 2022 BECE.
