Kansas City hospitals begin to push to vaccinate Missouri teachers
Teachers in Missouri are expected to receive their second doses of vaccine at the Truman Medical Centers and Children’s Mercy Hospital in the coming six weeks.
In all 10,000 teachers from over 500 public schools will receive their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
The COVID-19 vaccination exercise would see Raytown, Hickman Mills, Independence, and Fort Osage staff also immunized.
Speaking to FOX 4 the teachers disclosed they have been looking forward to this day.
How long after the second dose of the COVID vaccine is it effective?
“It’s definitely in the back of everyone’s mind, the safety of teachers and of our students,” Katie Hoyt, a teacher at Northeast Middle School, said after receiving her first shot. “We feel prepared. We have been trained. We have been taking all the measures and getting everything ready according to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines.”
According to Mark Bedell, the KCPS Superintendent, he is looking forward to complete in-person teaching and learning by May 2021.
He also has a strategy in place to make up for learning loss during the pandemic and to bridge the gap in learning caused by failures in remote learning
“I feel secure now, especially after receiving the first dose of the vaccine,” Hoyt said.
The Covid-19 vaccination of Missouri Teachers would help parents focus more on their work, career, and other important issues while educators vaccinated provide tuition safely. It will further relieve parents of the increased educator responsibilities they have been compelled to provide as a result of covid-19.
In all, nearly 95% of schools in Missouri are returning to the classroom with some level of in-person classes going on.
Governor Mike Parson in a tweet said: “We remain hard at work to achieve our goal of providing the COVID-19 vaccine to EVERY Missourian who wants it as soon as possible.”
