Check Out The List Of SHS Attended By Each President In Ghana’s History

In today’s article, we will be looking at the various senior high schools attended by each president of Ghana since 1957.

1. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is the first president of Ghana. Kwame Nkrumah attended Catholic day schools and graduated from Achimota College in 1930. A few years later, he moved to the United States to pursue master’s degrees at Lincoln University and the University of Pennsylvania.

2. Joseph Arthur Ankrah

He is the 2nd President of Ghana. He attended Accra Academy, one of the leading secondary schools in Ghana for his high school education.

3. Lieutenant General Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa

Lieutenant General Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa was a Ghanaian soldier, farmer, traditional ruler and politician. He attended Adisadel College, popularly known as “ADISCO”, is an Anglican boys’ boarding school in Cape Coast, Ghana.

4. Edward Akufo-Addo

Edward Akufo-Addo was a Ghanaian politician and lawyer. He was a member of the “Big Six” leaders of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and one of the founding fathers of Ghana who engaged in the fight for Ghana’s independence. He became the Chief Justice (1966–70) and later President (1970–72) of the Republic of Ghana. He attended Achimota School, which is a co-educational boarding school located at Achimota in Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana

5. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong

Ignatius Kutu Acheampong was a military head of state of Ghana who ruled from 13 January 1972 to 5 July 1978, when he was deposed in a palace coup. He attended the then Central College of Commerce at Agona Swedru in the Central Region of Ghana.

6. Jerry John Rawlings

Jerry John Rawlings is a former Ghanaian military leader and subsequent politician who ruled the country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979. He led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected President of Ghana. Rawlings finished his secondary education at Achimota College in 1967.

7. John Agyekum Kufuor

John Kufuor was the second president of Ghana under the Fourth Republic. The former Prempeh College Student is known by some as the Gentle Giant. President Kufuor has never shied away from his association with Prempeh College even when he came into the limelight of politics.

8. John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills

John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills (21 July 1944 – 24 July 2012) was a Ghanaian politician and legal scholar who served as President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012. He attended Achimota School which is a co-educational boarding school located at Achimota in Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana

9.John Dramani Mahama

John Dramani Mahama is a Ghanaian politician who served as President of Ghana from 24 July 2012 to 7 January 2017. John Mahama, former Ghana head of state is actually a product of both Achimota School and Ghana Secondary school, Tamale.

10. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the incumbent Ghanaian president. He has been in office since 7 January 2017. He completed his O-level and A-level at Lancing College , Lancing College is an independent boarding and day school in southern England, UK.
