1.3m SHS Students To Receive Tablets Under Smart Schools Project
President Akufo Addo has said that over 1.3 million Senior High School (SHS) students in Ghana will receive tablets under the Smart Schools Project.
He made this announcement during the launch of the Ghana Smart Schools Project at the Accra International Conference Center on Monday, 25th March, 2024. This is in a significant stride towards advancing education technology.
This initiative, announced during the launch of the Ghana Smart Schools Project in Accra, underscores the government’s commitment to equipping students with essential technological skills under the free SHS policy.
The Ghana Smart Schools Project aims not only to distribute tablets but also to construct approximately 100 smart SHSs across the country within the next two years. These schools are envisioned to revolutionize the learning environment and educational opportunities for students nationwide.
The tablets provided to SHS students will be loaded with digital content tailored to aid research, teaching, and learning processes, thereby enhancing the educational experience. Moreover, at the tertiary level, the government plans to offer tablets and laptops to students and lecturers at discounted rates, facilitating academic activities and fostering a conducive learning environment.
Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing education despite prevailing economic challenges. He emphasized that various programs will be rolled out to support education across the country, ensuring inclusivity so that no child is left behind. Dr. Adutwum underscored the paramount importance of investing in education and commended President Akufo-Addo for his visionary leadership in building a robust educational foundation for the country’s future.
This initiative marks a significant step towards harnessing the power of technology to empower Ghanaian students and educators, ultimately driving socio-economic development and fostering a knowledge-based society.
SHS Tablets Distribution Date
The distribution date of the tablets have officially begun in some schools. All schools who are yet to receive theirs will get it before September, 2024 ends.
What Are The Specifications Of The Tablet?
The tablet has four-inch screen, four gigabytes of RAM, and a battery life of seven to eight hours, along with a solar-based battery pack.
The tablets are water-resistant and equipped with a quad-core 2 process.
