The non-profit-making organization (WAEC) says it expects the majority of final-year Senior and Junior High School students preparing to sit for its examinations to pass excellently because the BECE and WASSCE questions are average.

Mr Ben K. Owusu, the Head of Test Development Division, WAEC in a discussion monitored by AcademicWeek.com said questions for the national and international examination are standard hence all students can answer to pass.

“The Basic Education Certificate Examination and West African Senior School Certificate Examination questions are not difficult, the questions are related to what they have been taught by their teachers in the classroom,” the WAEC official said.

The Council member in his advice has urged all candidates to study their books and refrain from going into the examination hall with foreign material in a bid to cheat in the examination or engaged in any form of malpractice.

For the Basic Education Certificate Examination, a spokeswoman for the West African Examinations Council, Agnes Cudjoe says more than 600,000 candidates will sit for the 2023 national examination slated for August 7 to August 11, 2023.

Speaking in a discussion monitored by AcademicWeek.com, she said all the candidates to partake in the national examination are registered and eligible final-year students from both private and public Junior High Schools (SHS).

Over 448,000 final-year Senior High School (SHS) students the Public Relations Officer for the not-for-money-making organization said will sit for the 2023 WASSCE for School from July 31, 2023, through to September 26, 2023.

Just like last year, Ghana this academic year will not write the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School with other member countries of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) including Nigeria.

The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has also said amid low entry registration of candidates for BECE for Private, it will this year administer BECE for School and Private at the same time.

WAEC as part of measures to make the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination and Basic Education Certificate Examination malpractice and leakage free has introduced new rules to the examinations.

In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the Council said the previous rules and regulations for dealing with cases of irregularity in the examinations have also been revised to make the conduct of the examinations more transparent.
