GTEC warns public of unaccredited study centres, programmes by some public and private universities/institutions

GTEC has called on the public to be on the lookout for unaccredited study centres and branch campuses by some public and private universities/institutions in the country. This warning goes to both local and foreign students seeking to study in Ghana.

According to the press release by GTEC “all programmes on offer at such study centres and branch campuses are unaccredited and SHALL NOT BE RECOGNISED since programme accreditation is site-specific.” This means the certificates awarded as well at the programme are illegal and fake and that students must avoid such institutions and programmes.

GHANA TERTIARY EDUCATION COMMISSION (GTEC)

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has noted with grave concern the proliferation of unaccredited study centres and branch campuses by some public and private universities/institutions of higher learning for offering various degree and diploma programmes.

The general public is hereby informed that all programmes on offer at such study centres and branch campuses are unaccredited and SHALL NOT BE RECOGNISED since programme accreditation is site-specific. This means that a programme accredited to run on the main campus of the institution cannot be lifted to run in any study centre or branch campus without specific accreditation approval.

The GTEC will shortly be embarking on an exercise to close down all unaccredited study centres and branch campuses and sanction the institutions involved. The general public and prospective students are advised to verify the accreditation status of any study centre and the programme it offers with GTEC before enrolling in it.
