Court Sets Aside Injunction Against Ga Manye Funeral

A High Court in Accra has ruled that an earlier injunction against the funeral of the late Ga Manye was made in error.

The Ga Traditional Council has, therefore, called on the public to disregard claims of the existence of any injunction granted against the funeral of the late Ga Manye.

Ayikoi Otoo, a member of the Central Planning Committee for the funeral, made this known to the media yesterday in Accra.

Ayikoi Otoo, who read the ruling of the court in the company of other members of the funeral committee, said the court in delivering its ruling said the “injunction application was granted in error as the applicants failed to give the true state of affairs.”

He said that the judge in charge, Justice Patrick Baayeh, said that anyone who wants to do something must help the other person.

“Upon reading the affidavit filed by the applicants and deposed to by the 1st Defendant/Applicant and upon hearing Ayikoi Otoo ESQ, Counsel for the Defendants/Applicants, I am of the view that the Order of Interim Injunction granted on October 25, 2023, was made in error.

“The Applicants failed to give the court the true state of affairs.”

“In fairness to the parties, therefore, the Order of Interim Injunction granted on October 25, 2023, is hereby set aside. Any party desirous of proceeding may come on notice to the other party for proper evaluation of the evidence from both sides,” Ayikoi Otoo added.

The former Attorney General and the Chairman of the Ga-Adangbe Council, therefore, indicated that the funeral rites will continue without any form of impediment as planned by the funeral committee, while appealing to the public to adhere to all the guidelines that have been announced for a successful funeral rites.

The press briefing by the Ga Traditional Council was in response to an injunction filed by some family members of the late Ga Manye against the funeral of the late queen mother.

The Ga Manye, who died in December 2022, will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
