Captain Smart Fired From Onua TV Over NMC Queries

The Morning Show Host of Onua TV, a subsidiary of Media General, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has been reportedly fired from the station.

Even though the Television station hasn’t officially issued any statement to confirm his dismissal, rumours are trending from Monday morning that the controversial Morning Show host has been fired.

But Captain Smart, himself who joined the station in 2021 after quitting Angel FM under controversial circumstances, has confirmed his exit from the station.

It is not clear whether his departure is linked to the issues with the National Media Commission, NMC, which has cautioned the station over his style of broadcasting.

Let me thank you all for your Indulgence your passion your compassion your empathy, everything put together that you wake up every other morning to come listen to me. Once again let me thank the management of Media General for containing me my speed is always supersonic, is always supersonic am a fixer I fix I make sure the dead will rise’’.

‘’I always make sure, that what is spoiled, the station that is dead and nothing can be done about it, that is where I bring it up. So thank you all Ghanaians. We have done enough. Someone should come and continue.”
He further claimed he was leaving Onua TV to pursue new challenges and opportunities in the media industry, saying he had done “enough”.

NMC Warning
The National Media Commission recently gave Captain Smart, and his employers, the last opportunity to right their wrongs on air.
This follows a letter to the station Management from NMC, that says it has recounted previous reports of incited language used by Captain Smart on Onua TV and Onua FM, which the Commission described as unprofessional and dangerous.

In a recent broadcast as well, Captain Smart accused the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other officers of the Ghana Armed Forces of keeping monies meant to be disbursed to soldiers on peacekeeping missions, while describing the CDS as a “beast.”

The Commission said it has given the presenter and management of Onua TV and Onua FM several opportunities to correct their acts of unprofessionalism, but to no avail.
In a final warning notice dated November 14, 2022, NMC demanded that Captain Smart and the Onua brand withdraw and apologize to the CDS for the insult, apologize to Ghanaians, and put in place measures to curb the use of unprofessional behaviour on their platform.

The Commission further gave the media house a deadline of November 19, 2023, a move which might have led to the exit of Smart.
