Region to host 67th Independence Day Anniversary unveiled

The Eastern Region has been approved to host Ghana’s 67th Independence Day anniversary on March 6, 2024. The national celebration will be held at the Youth Resource Centre (Koforidua Sports Stadium) in Koforidua.

To light up the celebration and keep the public updated, the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC) has organised a pre-launching ceremony for the upcoming 67th national Independence Day anniversary celebration in the capital, Koforidua.

On February 15, 2024, the official launch of the anniversary will be held in the Eastern region.

During the event, Lord Commey, Director of Operations at the Presidency, said that the Independence Day anniversary used to be celebrated only in the Greater Accra Region.

However, in 2017, it was decided to rotate and host the event in different regions to help stimulate the local economy.

According to him, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been rotating the anniversary celebration among different regions during his presidency, saying that this year, it is the turn of the Eastern Region to host the celebration.

He claimed that a group of organisations, including the Bureau of National Investigation, the State Protocol Department, and the Ghana Armed Forces, was in charge of organising the anniversary festivities.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong, asked the several institutions to work together to make sure the anniversary was properly planned.

He pointed out that this was a chance to highlight the rich cultural legacy of the area, which includes its eleven paramountcies.
