King Charles has Been Diagnosed with Cancer
Buckingham Palace said on Monday that King Charles, 75, will delay his public duties while he undergoes treatment after being diagnosed with a cancerous tumor.
The king, who took over as king in September 2022 after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, is “very optimistic” about his treatment and is looking forward to returning to full royal duties as soon as possible, according to the palace.
Charles underwent a corrective procedure for a benign, enlarged prostate after spending three nights in the hospital. A separate issue of concern had been spotted during the hospital visit, but the palace didn’t provide further details beyond stating that the king suffered from a “type of cancer.”
The palace said that His Majesty has begun a regular treatment regimen today, during which he has been advised by doctors to delay public-facing duties. His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork throughout this period.
As a result, Charles will continue to meet with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whereas his wife, Queen Camilla, will continue to fulfill her duties.
The news comes just days after Charles and his daughter-in-law left the same hospital where they had both undergone planned treatments.
The Princess of Wales and the wife of the heir to the British throne, Prince William, spent two weeks in the hospital after abdominal surgery for an unknown, but non-cancer condition.
The royals usually keep their health information secret, considering it a private matter, but Charles has been forthcoming about his recent treatment.
The Queen’s decision to disclose his diagnosis is intended to avoid speculation and to aid public understanding for all those around the globe who are affected by cancer, according to a statement from Buckingham Palace.

Sunak, the leader of the government, wished the King a speedy recovery, saying, “I’m certain he’ll be back to full strength in no time, and I’m sure the whole country will be thinking of him.”
The king’s cancer diagnosis has reached the rest of the royal family. A person close to the Duke of Sussex told me that Prince Harry, his younger son, will be heading to the UK to see him in the coming days.
After stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry and his American wife Meghan now reside in California, along with their two children, in the state of California.

The coronation, Britain’s biggest ceremonial occasion in ages, was the highlight of Charles’ first year as heir.
While there were rumors that the environmentalist would bring a radical overhaul of the monarchy when he was king, Charles has generally followed the lead of his mother, while also trying to add his own spin.
Most Brits, according to polls, are in favor of his reign so far, albeit the younger generation is less enthusiastic.
The ongoing fallout between his son Harry and the rest of his family was the biggest shadow over the royals before his recent health issues.
