They were recognised with awards for their commitment, creativity, and enthusiasm, all of which promoted learning.
The 2023 Afrifa-Mensah Teacher Prize Programme took place in Accra last Friday, and the teachers received their awards there.
Its goal was to honour and commemorate the outstanding achievements made by educators in the Ga West municipality.
“Thriving on transformation: Celebrating education to champion innovation” was the topic of the event.

The Recipients
Teachers and junior and senior high school students made up five of the awards.
For their exceptional work, each of them received a refrigerator, a medal, and a diploma.
As particular recognition for their contributions to enhancing education in the municipality, four more people—a head teacher, two representatives from the municipal education directorate, and a driver—each received a 32-inch TV.
Elvis Doh Mottey, a science teacher at the Ayikai Doblo M/A Basic School 1, was named the overall excellent teacher for his exceptional teaching methods, expertise, and ability to engage pupils. He also won recognition for his efforts to forge ties with students, families, and the larger community outside of the classroom.
Along with a medal, he also got a chest freezer and a certificate.
The Teacher Honours (Education Recognises educators)
The awards were instituted to honour all of the workers in the educational fraternity, according to Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa, the Member of Parliament for Amasaman.
Quickly, he added that he believed his successor will continue to acknowledge the efforts of dedicated teachers even though he would not be in parliament starting in January 2025.
He said that, he provided support to hundreds of students with fees at postsecondary institutions, secured full scholarships for 20 ladies to study ICT at OpenLabs (NIIT), and outfitted the home economic departments of Adjen-kotoku and Akramaman senior high schools.
In addition, he urged the creation of a society in which all children would have access to high-quality education, where teachers would have the freedom to change the world, and where there would be no restrictions on the advancement of knowledge and creativity.
Praising them, he said, the victors and added that everyone was inspired by their contributions.

According to Dr. Mama Laryea, the previous Chief of Party at USAID LEARNING, the traditional educational approach is no longer effective due to technological changes and the need for new skills in the workforce.
She asserted that educators need to embrace their creativity if they are to genuinely change the world.
“We must be willing to leave our comfort zones, attempt new teaching techniques, and embrace newer technologies, just as we urge our students to explore new concepts.
We will encourage our pupils to pursue lifelong learning by modelling it for them,” the speaker stated.
According to Dr. Laryea, the use of social media, virtual reality, and online platforms to generate learning opportunities that were previously unthinkable is how technology may make a significant impact in education.
In the meantime, she demanded that in order for educators to flourish in transformation through innovation, the nation’s educational system make resources available and attend to their concerns.

Victor Tawiah, the Ga West Municipal Director of Education, thanked educators for their excellent job and challenged them to be driven to support innovation.
He declared that he had requested that teachers be recognised for their excellent performance by all 29 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies that fall under his purview.
