Team Luna Azul wins Kofi A. Tawiah Good Citizenship Challenge

In the final competition, Team Luna Azul of SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College located in Tema emerged as winners of the Inaugural Kofi A. Tawiah Good Citizenship Challenge.

The competition is open to students from Upper Primary to senior high schools across Ghana. The competition requires student participants to engage in transformative community service initiatives.

The purpose was to establish an essential character trait in young students through learning and to promote good citizenship.

International Community School (ICS-Kumasi) emerged second, while Sunflower School in Accra placed third.

Team Luna Azul’s initiative supported children with special educational needs by providing resources for quality education tailored to their unique needs.

The project also aimed to raise awareness and promote social inclusion and acceptance for these children.

The team from International Community School (Kumasi) undertook a school reading support initiative to improve the reading abilities of students at Adjamensu A.M.E Zion Primary School.

Their project featured an innovative mobile library made from an old poly tank, providing much-needed reading materials for the students.

This creative approach not only enhanced reading skills but also instilled a love for books and learning in the students.

Sunflower School’s project focused on providing immediate relief items and supplies to victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage.

This initiative reinforced essential character values such as compassion, determination, and collaboration among the students and everyone involved.

The students’ efforts brought much-needed assistance to affected families, highlighting the importance of community support in times of crisis.

The Kofi A. Tawiah Good Citizenship Challenge has been praised for its impact on students and communities alike.
