Ghana becomes 2nd African country to get knowledge and skills portal

Ghana after Egypt has become the second country in Africa to launch the Knowledge and Skills Bank portal. The country’s version of the digital learning platform is dubbed Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank portal
The portal was launched on September 17, 2024, the Minister of Digitalisation and Communication says is a testament to the government’s commitment to make education accessible to all regardless of their class in society.
“It will enable students to achieve self-learning, problem-solving critical and creative thinking, digital and research competence, goal management, communication, investigation and media literacy”, she stated.
She highlighted that digitalisation offered solutions to many of the challenges facing the educational system, including limited access to quality resources and the educational disparity between urban and rural areas.
“By embracing digitalisation, we bridged these gaps and ensure that every student regardless of their background or location has access to world-class education,” the Minister in Charge of Digitalisation said at the launch.
Developed by a wholly-owned Ghanaian company called Npontu Technologies, it contains valuable information in line with the approved curriculum for Ghanaian students.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank portal also grants access to over 5 million online library archives, learning resources, and tools.
With AI integrated into the portal, students will be afforded the opportunity to be tutored and can ask salient questions they could not ask in their various classes.
The portal was developed by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation for the Ministry of Education under the erstwhile ETransform project and financed by the World Bank.
The Knowledge and Skills portal can be accessed at www.gksb.gov.gh.
