Why always the Volta Region? Ghanains react to ECs latest ballot shortfalls for Volta region

The Electoral Commission of Ghana, in a letter dated November 28, 2024, has indicated that it has identified some shortfalls in the presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the Volta Region.

The letter stated that the affected constituencies are Keta, Ketu North, Ho Central, Ho West, and Hohoe.

It further noted that the pending ballots will be printed by Acts Commercials. All political parties and independent presidential candidates are required to provide two representatives each to observe the printing process, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, November 29, 2024.

According to the EC, the printing is expected to commence at 10:00 a.m. at the premises of the Acts Commercial Printing Press located in Accra.

The general public has reacted to this development, with many Ghanaians questioning why the EC often faces issues and challenges in relation to election preparations in the Volta Region.

Prior to this, the EC had to destroy voting materials printed for the Volta Region and other regions due to issues with the serial numbers on the ballot sheets for the December 7th election.

Reacting to the EC’s latest update on the ballots for the Volta Region, the Commission has been accused by some of intentionally printing fewer ballots than required for the region.
