EC 2024 special voting on Monday – Jean Mensa Speaks
The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is set to organize the 2024 special voting on Monday, 2nd December 2024. In total, 276 special voting centers will be used for the exercise across the country.
The EC’s 2024 special voting will enable individuals assigned roles on the main election day—such as EC officials, officers of various security agencies deployed across the country, and some top political party officials, among others—to vote ahead of the general election. This arrangement ensures that these individuals have ample time to perform their official duties on election day.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Jean Mensa, addressed the 2024 special voting during her interaction with the National Security Task Force, headed by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare. According to Mrs. Mensa, the EC is fully prepared for the task ahead.

The general election is scheduled for December 7th, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for all eligible voters not participating in the special voting. Speaking on the EC’s readiness for the December 7th polls, Mrs. Jean Mensa disclosed that approximately 75% of all ballot papers have been distributed, and the biometric verification machines have been dispatched to the respective district electoral offices. These machines will be assigned to polling stations on election day.

Simplified guide on how to vote in Ghana’s election once you arrive at the polling station:
- Join the queue of voters present at the polling station where you registered for voting.
- When it is your turn in the queue, approach the officer to check your name against the list of registered voters (you will need your voter ID card). If you do not have your ID card, you can still go through the process and vote.
- If your name is on the list, you will be directed to the next Electoral Commission (EC) officer who has a photo album. You will be verified using the verification machine to confirm that your photo and details are in the book.
- You will be marked with indelible ink as part of efforts to ensure you do not engage in multiple voting.
- You will then move to the next stage to receive your presidential ballot paper. Ensure that the EC official has stamped the back of the ballot and that there are no extra markings or ink on the ballot paper.
- Enter the voting booth, clean your hands, put your thumb on the ink pad provided, and thumbprint in the box beside the candidate you want to vote for. You can identify the candidate by his or her picture or party logo. For instance, the logo of the NDC is the umbrella, and that of the NPP is an elephant. Vote for only one candidate and mark the box beside their name.
- Fold your ballot paper vertically before folding it horizontally. After marking your choice, you must fold your ballot paper to maintain the confidentiality of your vote.
- Walk to the ballot box and drop your vote into it.
- Go back to the EC official for the parliamentary candidate ballot paper and follow the same steps you used to vote for your presidential candidate.
