EC Holds Press Conference Ahead of Dec 2 Special Voting -Live

The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is holding a special press conference ahead of the December 7, 2024, general election and the special voting scheduled to take place on December 2, 2024, at all designated special voting centers. Representatives of various political parties, independent candidates, and the media have converged at the EC headquarters for this crucial press conference.

The EC has disclosed that it is recalling the ballot papers for the Eastern Region and will provide full details to the parties at an emergency meeting. It stated that there was a leakage of presidential ballot papers for the presidential candidates. Political parties and their respective candidates have agreed with the EC’s decision to recall the papers.

The EC added that the printing of the presidential ballots for the Eastern and Western Regions will be reprinted, starting in the evening of December 1, 2024. Both regions’ ballots were earlier printed by Checkpoint Printing Press.

The EC called on Ghanaians to support the Commission in its efforts to protect and ensure the integrity of the election. EC Chair Jean Mensah noted that it was not an easy decision to recall the ballot papers and direct their reprinting. She explained that one defaced ballot paper discovered at the printing press was the sole reason for recalling all the ballot papers for the two regions.

According to the EC, the defaced ballot paper ended up in the poblic domain.
