A Sad Reality For All Ghanaian Basic School Teachers This Christmas
“If you are a Ghanaian Basic school teacher or a Community Nurse who earns 1700 cedis as take-home pay and wants to celebrate a modest Christmas.
You are likely to buy 1 5KG of rice at 100 cedis
1 liter of Cooking oil at 45 cedis
20 cedis worth of tomatoes paste
80 cedis worth of live chicken
At the purchase of just 4 items, 245 cedis is gone out of your 1700 cedis.
Other ingredients are not captured including transportation from the house to the market and back to your house.
If you have parents, you will have to send them some money.
If you are married with kids, you need to get them a Christmas dress.
Most importantly, it is this same 1700 cedis you will depend on throughout December to the last week of January in the coming year.
If we speak about the failures of this government, it is because we want things to get better for you struggling folks back home. After all, they are a government that promised so much, and has gotten so much revenue yet has failed to deliver on the basic promise they made.
This is even for those who earn 1700 cedis, what about you who earn far less than 1700 and those who have no jobs at all like the dejected NABCO personnel?
Wise Up, this Government has failed and must not be entertained in any form.”
