Accept Handwritten and Electronically Prepared Lesson Notes – GES to Heads

The Ghana Education Service has directed head teachers to accept both handwritten and digital lesson notes, also known as electronically prepared lesson plans, from teachers.
The GES by this order has distanced itself from an earlier directive from some district directors of education who are trying to enforce the use of handwritten lesson notes and kicking against the digital lesson notes (electronically prepared lesson notes).
To set the record straight, the GES has directed that both handwritten and electronically prepared lesson notes are accepted by heads of schools at the basic and secondary school levels. The digital lesson notes have become popular following the introduction of the 2019 Common Core Curriculum.
This was communicated by the GES in a letter dated 17th January, 2025, and signed by DR. KWABENA BEMPAH TANDOH, DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL (Q&A). The letter furthered that the electronically prepared lesson plans can be submitted by teachers via printed and email forms.
Per this directive, the GES has silently asked heads and district offices that are against the electronically prepared lesson plans to accept these lesson plans. The decision now lies with teachers, who must choose which of the two options they want to submit and discuss with their head teachers. The order/directive from some district officers is hereby quashed.

LESSON NOTES PREPARATION FOR TEACHERS IN THE GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE
Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has become aware of some misunderstanding between heads and their teachers in some schools in respect of lesson notes preparations.
Regional Directors are to bring to the attention of District/Municipal/Metropolitan Directors of Education to ensure that all heads of schools (Basic and Second Cycle) accept both handwritten and electronically prepared lesson notes in both printed and email forms.
Thank you.
