AFCON 2023: Ghana draws with Egypt after defensive blunders and lost of concentration
When Ghana looked like it was out to win its second group B game against Egypt, two defensive blunders by Inaki Williams and Bukari gifted Egypt a level peg at 1 all, then a 2-2 drawn score line.
Mohammed Kudus scored a brace on the day, but the poor defensive setup and work of the Ghanaian defense led to the consideration of both equalizers.
Ghana sits at the tail end of the table with just a point after two matches at the AFCON. This sums up the quality of the current Black Stars.
Currently, this is how Group B looks
# | SOCCER TEAM | MP | W | D | L | F | A | D | P | LAST 5 MATCHES |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Cape Verde Islands | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 1 | +1 | 3 | |
2 | Egypt | 2 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 4 | 4 | +0 | 2 | |
3 | Mozambique | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 | 2 | +0 | 1 | |
4 | Ghana | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 3 | 4 | -1 | 1 |
Ghana is on the verge of exiting the 2023 AFCON if the Black Stars do not win the last group match. If the Stars win their last group match and obtain 4 points in the tournament, they may just be lucky to be one of the best third-placed teams to go through.
The Black Stars have their destiny in their hands. A win against Mozambique is the only way to give them a lifeline. Anything apart from a win will send them out of the AFCON in the group stage for the second successive tournament.
