Akufo-Addo Denounces NDC’s Weapon Display, Expresses Concerns for 2024 Elections

In a stern response to the recent display of machetes and weapons by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), President Akufo-Addo has expressed his strong disapproval, cautioning against any potential escalation leading up to the 2024 elections. The incident unfolded at the office premises of the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, following a purported clean-up exercise on Thursday, November 23, 2023.
President Akufo-Addo addressed the issue during the Valedictory Church Service for the outgoing Moderator, Rt. Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, at the Victory Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Accra.

Expressing his concern over the use of machetes and weapons, he emphasized that he hopes this is not indicative of the tone of the upcoming electoral season.
“It is my honest hope that the machetes and weapons brandished last week at the residence of the NDC’s presidential candidate, the former president John Mahama, are not signs of things to come in the run-up to the 2024 elections,” President Akufo-Addo stated firmly.
He went on to reassure the public that, under his watch, no individual or group, regardless of their political affiliation, will be allowed to destabilize the country or compromise the peace enjoyed by its citizens.
“I want to state for the record that under my watch, no person or group of persons, no matter their political coloration, will destabilize our country nor destroy the peace that all of us are enjoying. It will not happen,” he affirmed.
