Amrahia Community School Learners Inspired After Parliament Visit, Challenged to work hard

In an exciting blend of outdoor learning and civic education, the students and teachers of Amrahia Community School embarked on an educational tour of the Parliament of Ghana. The excursion, which took place yesterday, July 7, 2026, was organized as a flagship activity of the school’s Term 3 extracurricular program.

The initiative aimed to expose the learners to the practicalities of governance, public administration, and democracy, bringing them closer to the heartbeat of lawmaking in the country.

A Hands-On Lesson in Democracy

A total of 74 participants—comprising a vibrant mix of students from the upper primary and junior high school (JHS) levels, alongside their teachers—benefited from the trip.

While seated in the public gallery, the students watched the inner workings of government come alive. Through engaging storytelling, interactive Q&A sessions, and guidance from seasoned Parliamentary resource persons, the learners were thoroughly educated on the rich history of Ghana’s legislature and its vital role as an independent arm of government.

The highlight of the day came when the delegation was given the rare privilege of witnessing a live parliamentary sitting inside the main chamber.

“Hear, Hear!” — Students learned that traditional clapping is forbidden in the Parliamentary gallery. Instead, approval is expressed by saying “Hear, hear!”

Recognized by the Speaker

The presence of Amrahia Community School did not go unnoticed. The Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, officially acknowledged the school from the floor.

Addressing the gallery during the day’s proceedings, the Speaker welcomed the visiting schools and challenged the students to anchor their lives on hard work, discipline, and patriotism. He urged them to prepare themselves diligently for the future, noting that they are the next generation of leaders destined to steer the affairs of the nation.

Understanding Parliamentary Etiquette and Security

Beyond the politics, the excursion served as a strict lesson in institutional discipline. The students were educated on the rigid rules and regulations that visitors must observe while in the gallery.

Aside from learning that applause is strictly banned, they were taught that crossing one’s legs is prohibited as a sign of respect for the authority of the Speaker. Navigating the tight security protocols at the facility also provided a valuable real-world learning curve for the young minds.

A Inspiring Dialogue with Hon. Mohammed Adamu Ramadan

The memorable day concluded on a high note when Hon. Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, the Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency—under whose jurisdiction the school falls—met with the students and teachers after the sitting.

In a warm and interactive session, Hon. Ramadan tested the students’ immediate knowledge of what they had learned about Parliament. He expressed great pride in their brilliance and urged them to remain curious about their immediate environments, including their homes.

Sharing a personal reflection, the MP advised the learners to pay attention to the careers of those around them, dropping a final piece of inspiration by highlighting how children often grow up to successfully step into the professional shoes of their parents, just as he eventually did in the field of public service.

He also had a brief but fruitful discussion with teachers of the school followed by a memorable and historic photo session.
