Are Final SHS students writing 2022 WASSCE or University Entrance Exams?

Are Final SHS students writing 2022 WASSCE or University Entrance Exams? This question has popped up due to rumour making rounds currently.

For over two decades now, graduates from Senior High Schools have gained direct entry into tertiary institutions in Ghana. The credibility issues that surrounded the 2020 and 2022 WASSCE examination results in Ghana saw the public and key stakeholders call for the reintroduction of the University entrance examination for students who pass the WASSCE.
WAEC has stood its ground in the face of constant EduWatch watchdog checks on its conduct of international, and examinations. WAEC has indicated that its examinations remain credible and has in some instances rubbished claims of examination malpractices levelled against it by Africa Education Watch.
At the time of this publication, information available to Ghanaeducation.org suggests that the 2022 WASSCE
Final International Timetable for 2022 WASSCE for School Candidates in the Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone is out but that of Ghana has not been released.
Information trickling through the rumour mail further indicates final year Senior High School candidates might write an entrance University examination or may write 2022 WASSCE alone. The WASSCE 2022 registration is nearly over and candidates have registered for the exmination pending the release of the timetable.
The Ghana Education Service, WAEC, and other stakeholders are expected to make official statements on the matter to either confirm or debunk the information out there.
In January this year, a purported document classified as the new educational reforms disclosed final year Senior High School (SHSs) students will soon sit for the university entrance test instead of the WASSCE for School conducted by WAEC. The document furthered that upon successful completion and passing of the said entrance examination, students will be issued with a diploma certificate which will replace the famous West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) certificate.
