Osofo Kyiri Abosom, a presidential candidate for Ghana Union Movement (GUM), has made a bold promise to eradicate corruption if elected. In an interview on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, he declared his intention to sever the fingers of corrupt officials under his control. Initially considering amputation of toes, he argued that toes wouldn’t be noticeable in shoes, making it easier for corrupt authorities to conceal their actions.

Kyiri Abosom emphasized the need for severe measures to combat corruption, stating that amputating fingers in public would bring attention to the wrongdoing. He explained his strategy, intending to inflict wounds on corrupt officials and cover them up. The candidate suggested that when these officials re-enter society, their finger amputations would serve as evidence of their involvement in corruption.

In addition to physical punishments, Kyiri Abosom proposed enacting a law he referred to as “Sharia Law” to punish corrupt individuals severely. This law would involve seizing their assets along with the amputation of fingers. Despite potential concerns about the harshness of his approach, he defended it as the only way to effectively address the pervasive issue of corruption.

The presidential contender stressed the urgency of taking decisive action, arguing that those in power were engaged in various forms of corruption. He asserted that implementing such stringent measures was necessary to cleanse the government of dishonest officials. Kyiri Abosom’s uncompromising stance, while garnering attention, raises ethical and legal questions about the appropriateness of such extreme measures in addressing corruption within the political landscape.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom, aside from his religious leadership, entered the political scene in Ghana. In the 2020 Ghanaian presidential election, he ran as the presidential candidate for the Ghana Union Movement (GUM). Although he didn’t win the presidency, his political involvement has contributed to the diversity of political options in Ghana. Abosom is known for his charismatic preaching style and his efforts to address social and political issues in the country.

As a pastor, Osofo Kyiri Abosom has been associated with the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC). His transition into politics marked a shift from his religious activities to a broader engagement with societal concerns. Abosom’s political platform, GUM, aimed to address issues such as corruption, economic development, and social justice in Ghana.
