Asiedu Nketia now Chairman Mosquito & new Chairman of NDC
Does the name change to ‘Chairman Mosquito’ or he’s still the General?
NDC’s General Mosquito (Johnson Asiedu Nketia) now Chairman Mosquito as newly elected Chairman of the NDC has set a new record as the first NDC General Secretary to become the Chairman of the party.
Prior to this victory, he served the National Democratic Congress as the General Secretary for 17 years.
At the just ended election where national delegates of the NDC voted to elect National Executives ahead of their congress to choose a presidential candidate, he contested the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.
The most competitive election campaign was the election for the position of the position of National Chairman. The content was between the outgoing General Secretary and the current chairman Samuel Owusu-Ampofo.
Asiedu Nketiah secured 65.17% (5,569 ) of the total valid votes cast for the NDC party chairmanship position to win the election at the National Congress held on Saturday, December 17, 2022.
His closest competitor, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who until this election was the National Chairman of the NBDC polled just 33.81% (2,892 votes) of the total vote cast.
According to the Electoral Commission, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah garnered 5,569 while the incumbent Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo managed 2,892 votes.
By this result, NDC’s former General Mosquito is now Chairman Mosquito as the newly elected Chairman of the NDC ahead of the 2024 General elections.
Now that he has won the contest, probably his name should be Chairman General Mosquito because he is the general in Ghana politics so the general still stands.
