Bawumia ‘s Brother Rewarded the Sole-sourced Road Contracts Worth Over GH¢83m – Ablakwa Tell it All
Allegations Surface Over Bawumia’s Brother and Sole-Sourced Road Contracts. In a bold revelation that has stirred controversy, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has leveled serious allegations against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of hypocrisy over his recent promises to Ghanaians regarding government contract transparency. Despite Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to end the practice of unmerited single-sourcing in government contracts, a new audit report suggests otherwise, especially concerning cocoa road projects.
Ablakwa, in a post shared on X on February 16, 2024, highlights findings from a performance audit report dated June 12, 2023, by Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu. The report alarmingly points out that an astonishing 87% of cocoa road contracts since 2020 were awarded through non-competitive single-sourcing, with some contracts priced at triple their actual value, indicating a gross lack of value for money.
Digging deeper, Ablakwa’s investigation uncovered that two contracts worth over GH¢83 million were awarded to Resources Access Limited, a company with close familial ties to Vice President Bawumia, in a single day. These contracts, identified to be significantly overpriced, were given to Abraham Bawumia, the Vice President’s brother, and Aneta Kaminska Bawumia, further entangling the Vice President in a web of nepotism and favoritism.
The contracts in question involve the upgrading of the Effutu – Abrem Agona and Effutu – Sorodofo Feeder Road in the Central Region, valued at GH¢54,262,878.84, and the Kyiboso Hasowodze Bungalow Feeder Road, also in the Central Region, valued at GH¢29,468,546.54. These revelations have sparked outrage, particularly considering Dr. Bawumia’s previous criticisms of former President John Dramani Mahama for similar practices.

Ablakwa’s findings and accusations bring to light a significant contradiction between Dr. Bawumia’s public declarations and his actions, raising questions about the integrity of his promises to the Ghanaian people. The MP’s disclosure not only accuses the Vice President of engaging in “create, loot, and share schemes” but also challenges the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the allocation of public contracts.
As the story unfolds, the Ghanaian public awaits further clarification and response from the Vice President’s office. This scandal highlights the ongoing challenges of governance in Ghana, where the line between political promises and actual practices often remains blurred, undermining public trust and confidence in elected officials.
