Why 2022 BECE graduates will be disappointed with school placement: How to avoid it
This year’s school selection will start on 31st October and end on 18th November, and 2022 BECE graduates will be disappointed with school placement if the following are not considered during school selection. Make sincere 2022 school selection based on the following
#1. Do not make the mistake of going after only Boarding schools in your school choices.
Parents and candidates must note that there is great competition for boarding schools. The fact is, there is more competition for boarding school enrolment than Day schools. Nearly every JHS graduate who will be choosing or selecting a school from options 1 to 5 will love to attend boarding school. This has been the trend all these years, even before the Free SHS was fully introduced in 0217. The competition is great hence to avoid this to some extent, candidates should opt for day schools that are closer to them and within a radius of 16 km so that they can commute from home daily. Better still, choose at least three schools that are within your community or which will require less transportation cost to commute to school and back home daily. Those who end up choosing boarding accommodation for nearly all schools may not be placed in such schools if there are other candidates who performed better than you.

#2. Never choose schools without using the YES Cluster Option, although it is not compulsory
Choosing schools without opting for the new feature called the Cluster Option will put your school choices at risk, just like the other candidates who obtained between grade 9 and 15 but were not placed in any of their choices and have to either choose new schools through the self-placement or end up attending private SHS. We encourage candidates to make good use of this option when they make choices in Category A, B, or C. A word to the wise is sufficient…
#3. Do not chase after over-subscribed category A schools as choice 1, be smart.
Another mistake to avoid as a student or a parent is to make sure, you do not necessarily choose schools from category A. If you know from the last year that, your BECE graduate has never made a grade between 5-ones and 9-ones, do not burden yourself with stress by choosing a school from category A as your first choice. Instead, start thinking of making your choices from category B. There are candidates who may not qualify enough for schools in category B, why not start making your choices from category C? Avoid all the stress of missed opportunities by starting the school selection based on your academic strengths and not your taste.
