Cheapest and Most Expensive Monthly Internet Prices Globally (unlimited data, cable/ADSL)

The Cheapest and Most Expensive Monthly Price for the Internet (unlimited data, cable/ADSL) as of July 1st, 2023 is out.
While the internet remains super cheap, accessible, reliable, and fast in some parts of the world, it can be described as a prestigious commodity that although super slow, unstable, and annoying, it is priced like a golden calf in other parts of the world.
In 2022, Burundi had the most expensive internet in the world with an average monthly price of $429.95 per month. At the same time, Syria had the cheapest internet in the world with an average monthly cost of $2.15 per month. However, the tables have turned.
Ukraine remains the best place on earth to have access to the internet in 2023 which costs only $5.42 if you want to enjoy unlimited data access per month.
This is followed by Russia where a month’s access to the internet (unlimited data, cable/ADSL) costs as little as $6.08.
In Turkey and India, it costs $7.97 and $8.54 a month respectively. Comparing these prices to those charged in Africa, one would agree that, it costs a fortune to have unlimited access to the internet in Africa.
Per the Monthly Price for Internet released, it costs customers in South Africa $43.42 to have access to unlimited Internet.
Below is the list of countries and the price of their monthly unlimited internet data
The monthly global price for the Internet (unlimited data, cable/ADSL):
This data provides an intriguing snapshot of the vast disparities in monthly internet prices (unlimited data, cable/ADSL) across various countries.
At one end of the spectrum, Ukraine, Russia, and Turkey boast the most affordable prices, with Ukraine leading the list at just $5.42 per month. Many of these countries with low-cost internet have taken significant strides to improve their digital infrastructure, making internet access more widespread and affordable for their citizens.
Interestingly, several countries with high tech industries, such as India, Romania, and Vietnam, also offer relatively inexpensive internet services. This could be due to competitive markets, government policies, or a combination of both, aimed at bolstering digital inclusion and facilitating economic growth.
Moving towards the other end of the scale, countries like the United States, Canada, Australia, and the UAE feature the most expensive rates.
One might expect these countries to offer cheaper internet given their advanced technological infrastructure, but costs are likely driven up by various factors, including the vast geographical areas that service providers must cover, operational costs, regulatory factors, and market competition levels.
However, it’s also crucial to consider these prices in relation to the average income of the citizens in these countries. For instance, while the cost of internet in the United States is quite high in absolute terms, it may be more affordable for many citizens relative to their incomes than in some countries with lower nominal internet costs.
Finally, this data is a reminder of the digital divide that still exists globally. While the cost of internet service is just one aspect of this divide, it plays a significant role in determining who has access to this vital resource.
Affordable, reliable internet access is increasingly necessary for participation in many aspects of life, from education to commerce to social interaction. Therefore, ensuring such access is a key issue for countries worldwide.
