WASSCE Grading System was introduced to assess students’ performance. The WASSCE grading system is based on the percentage of your total marks (continuous assessment which is 30% and the WASSCE, which is 70%).

It is very easy to calculate your WASSCE results. You only select 6 of your best results and do the calculation. This will help you when a particular university has set the cut off marks for its courses.

To calculate your WASSCE results properly, sum the 6 best subjects of your results. Including the four core subjects (Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies). Mathematics and English Language is always  a must subject among the core subjects.

If you intend to pursue a Science related programme in university, you need to include Science in your grading but if you do not, then you can consider Social Studies.

WASSCE results are usually divided into core subjects and elective subjects. The core subjects typically include:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics (Core)
  • Integrated Science or Social Studies

Elective subjects can vary depending on your chosen program but might include subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Geography, Literature, etc.

Using the grading system table provided above, convert each of your letter grades to their corresponding quality points.

To calculate your aggregate score, sum the quality points of your best six subjects. For university admissions, the three core subjects and best three elective subjects are usually considered. The lower the aggregate score, the better
