Cleaner jailed 20 years for defiling 13-year-old JHS student
A cleaner, Ishmael Nyave, has been jailed for 20 years for defilement by the Adentan Circuit Court in Accra.
The sentenced 39-year-old cleaner was found guilty of having s3x with a 13-year-old underage girl at Ashongman in Accra.
During the court hearings, he pleaded guilty to the charges and was charged with defilement on his own plea by Judge Sedinam Awo Balokah, who presided over the case.
According to the facts of the case as president to the court, on September 31, 2023, Nyave saw the victim and asked if she had had her menstruation. The victim informed the accused that she had not had her menstruation.
The prosecution said the accused person personally bought a pregnancy test kit, and when the pregnancy test was conducted, it was confirmed that the victim was pregnant.
The court issued an order that the Social Welfare Department at Abokobi be responsible for monitoring the victim’s family for a period of one year as part of their probationary period.
In addition, the court issued an order that the amount of GHC4,000 that the accused individual had handed over to the police should be sent to the victim’s father so that he can provide for his daughter (the victim).
According to the prosecution, which is led by Chief Inspector A Fosu, the complainant is a carpenter who lives in Ashongman, Accra, with the victim and the rest of the family.
According to the prosecution, the victim was a student in the junior high school who was thirteen years old.
The accused individual allegedly lived with his family in a rented flat that was located next to the residence of the victim, as stated by the prosecution evidence.
In August of 2023, the victim went to the backyard of her home to get some water. While she was there, the accused person encountered her, enticed her to come to his house, and then had sexual relations with her.

In the aftermath of the crime, the prosecution stated that the girl, who was terrified, was unable to alert her parents.
The report stated that the girl confided in her older sister, who then notified their grandma about the situation.
The prosecution stated that the grandmother then told the complainant, and that a report was made to the police. Additionally, a medical form was given to the complainant so that they might inquire about receiving medical treatment.

The prosecution informed the court that its findings from the medical examination revealed that the victim was six weeks and two days pregnant at the time of the examination.
The prosecution stated that the accused acknowledged to the crime in his cautioned statement. This occurred when the accused was arrested.
